I want. I want. I WANT...

Oh, do excuse me, you just caught me mid tantrum.

I mentioned yesterday, my broken news years resolution and my lack of discipline. Well, this extends to my nails. Confession: I bite my nails AND I WANT NICE NAILS!

It is a really unattractive trait I know and totally bizarre when you think about it. You wouldn't munch on any other body part, well, not in front of people.

Worse still I don't even realise I'm doing it, well not always. I did notice the other evening mind you, when I was watching "The Hurt Locker" – Man! have you seen that yet? I suspect even non nail biters may find themselves with slightly shorter nails after that one.

So guys, how do I knock this nasty little habit on the head? Any tricks or tips I could try?

Well, I am not a nail biter, in fact i Usually get compliments on my nice and natural nails. Have you tried keeping polish on your nails? I think part of the reason i never think about biting my nails is that I always have polish on them, and I don't want to mess that up.

omgggg you are so funny! there is this nail polish that you can put on, and it has a really bad taste for the purpose of making you stop biting ur nails? not just normal nail polish. alsoooo, if u get a manicure, then u won't want to mess it up, and waste the money of getting ur nails done!

I am happy to say I quit many, many years ago - but I wonder if nail polish would help. It tastes pretty crappy and flakes, so it could work as a deterrent?

I was five when I quit biting my nails. I was bribed with sweets and avon kids range nail polishes ;)

When I was much younger, I bit my nails, mainly because I was constantly trying to tidy them up... I finally realized they would look much better if left alone. I think the nasty-tasting stuff that you can paint on worked for me - have you tried that perhaps?

have u ever tried that stuff that u dip your whole finger into and it dries, then when you go to bite your nail it tastes disgusting! you can get it in boots or superdrug

I don't bite mine but I don't take care of them either and I quite look like a man sometimes in hand deportment. What makes me take care of them is painting them or paying for a manicure. If you do that you won't want to bite off the results... possibly. :)

Nail polish remover. If you dip your fingertips in it, it tastes so disgusting when you put your fingers in your mouth to bite your nails. Completely gross! :/

I use to bite my nails until I was 25 and I'm 28 now. At that point in my life, I got so busy that I really didn't have the urge to bite my nails. When I finally noticed that my nails were longer, it made me not want to bite them. So, I found some ways to prevent me from biting.
1. Kept them polished. So, instead of biting, would just peel the polish off.
2. gently buffed my nails or massage or pushed back my cuticles.
3. slightly bite the tip of my finger to give the biting sensation without biting the nails.

After all that, I no longer even have the urge to bite my nails. Hope these help you as much as they have helped me!
